Digital Nativity + Diversity Dreaming! Summer of 2017!!

I have just begun taking baby steps towards realising a long-held ambition. To start something of value – a  diversity-led marketing startup trying to disrupt the very visages of how diversity can add to a brand’s bottomline and topline impacting the business via expansion into a consumer base that is diverse! Can’t give out more details but I promise I will be less cryptic and my blog readers and followers across my social media channels will be the first to know! The launch of my new start-up is August 2017! More later… This Blog itself is in transition at the moment. Although content still remains this blog’s strong point, the only downside of not having enough content is being worked out as I write this post! I am currently setting up a Diversity and Inclusion portfolio and so my energies are largely focussed on this new project. However, beginning August this year, I shall be more active on my blog. To me personally, this blog is much more that a journal on fashion, brands, lifestyle etc. The blog is all about people, individuality and the power of self that can create and consume consciously! We are at crossroads where it is no […]

Photo-blog: My recent trips to Nordics, Baltics, Germany, Russia and Spain + Poetry: Art in the Sea!

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous I love reiterating quotes that are so stimulating to the mind and senses  , especially as they are rooted in my real life experiences because I feel so motivated to explore the world we inhibit. I first became aware of the enthusiasm of traveling as an army kid – my dad is a retired army officer and we were always on the move during his postings every year or two! I was the first one to get super excited about packing my bags and exploring the unknown. To this day travel brings in those fond memories and my family makes sure we travel 3-4 times in the year to places we have never been to – together. It is simply amazing and I am thankful to God for giving me this opportunity time and again and to be able to travel with my loved ones. Touch wood! Traveling is invigorating. And, traveling in the sea even more so. I feel like I belong to the sea and this poem I wrote years back holds true to this fact till date. And there is just one message […]

Vogueistic Wearables, Louis Vuitton Series and London Design Festival!

I have been on a holiday. Cruising to the Nordics, Baltics all the way to Russia and finally culminating a fab holiday in Spain. Some more notes on my recent travels will be up soon on my blog as a photoblog because travel is to create memories.. not to be reduced to a text. This isn’t the end of the holiday season. Fyi.. NO E.F.F.I.N.G WAY! There is a lot more coming ..more exotic locations This also kind of explains why I haven’t been active on the blogging biosphere. Hopefully, I will be able to churn out some interesting stuff in the coming months for my readers whilst still being able to find time to work and play! Technology today is not only enhancing experience both virtually and real-time but in many ways also bridging the divide between virtual and real. The gap is fast diminishing between the rhetoric and reality albeit still figuring out the notion of human touch. With a proliferation of internet connected devices, Wearables are getting there i.e. at the point of human touch via a technology format where the need is replacing the gimmick du jour. Today Wearables are not about contextualising fashion but are about reinventing the traditional and conventional formats […]

Eco-Consciousness, Sustainability and Social Responsibility in the age of #CecilTheLion, #FlipOffFur & #BirkinBag

We are living in the age of contradiction. On one hand we abhor violence and on the other we continue to discriminate. On one hand, there is a growing sense of environmental responsibility and on the other we continue to ravage and exploit the planet in umpteen ways. There are a lot more pro-planet initiatives across the globe; Hand-made, sustainable fashion; Causes and hashtags on animal cruelty, fair trade, organic farming and sensitive subjects like child and cheap labour in the underprivileged third world countries. While we are also seeing massive amount of plastic, hazardous material and trash accumulating in our oceans; The carbon footprint is growing despite a gradual transition to the Green cause. The divergence in viewpoints on environmentalism is universal but the end result is proving to be quite contradictory. Karl Lagerfeld ‘haute fourrure’ or ‘couture fur’ runway show earlier this month at Fendi’s couture show in Paris is a testament to the fact!  The Chanel head designer (who also heads up Fendi and his own eponymous label) vehemently supports the fur industry justifying his supporting the growth of the trade in saving jobs of people engaged in it since he believes they cannot do any other job besides slaughtering! Then we have trail blazers like Jane Birkin, Hermès’ Birkin’s eponymous […]

The UnRetouched trend; Gucci’s Reinvention; Succès de Scandale – Learning from Miley, Madonna & Iggy Azalea = Celebrating Inner beauty! Selena Gomez Vs. Nicole Kidman

The notion on beauty, objectifying beauty and its complexities are varied but now it is reaching an apocalyptic level of liberation becoming more vivid, true to the core and sight for sore eyes. Case in point – from Madonna‘s unretouched pictures for Interview magazine in November last year; Kate Moss‘s recent unretouched Vogue Italia spread shot by Peter Lindbergh; the leaked L’Oréal cosmetics campaign showing Beyoncé‘s uneven skin tone; Cindy Crawford‘s much debated stretch marks via Marie Claire Mexico.. to the very recent, Iggy Azalea accepting that being a woman and having cellulite is perfectly normal! Reese Witherspoon’s Wild, Julianne Moore’s role of Alice Howland and her gripping performance in Still Alice and especially the deglamourized performance from Jennifer Aniston in Cake all point to a clear emphasis on “real beauty”, “real-woman” beautiful from the inside! UnRetouched, most definitely is a trend now.  What is sad is that the reaction over it in social media from certain quarters which is quite disgusting – as if there is a sheer lack of moral consciousness out there! I totally respect freedom of speech howsoever opinionated (strong, succinct, relevant or otherwise) as some people can be subtly honest and bold about their introspection on what’s trending – however, today, […]
